The City of North Las Vegas is home to nearly 300,000 residents, with a diverse population and a diverse economy. The Fire Department staffs eight fire stations throughout the City, with approximately 200 civilian and sworn personnel.

Open Recruitment

NLVFD is currently hosting an open recruitment to establish an eligiblity list for a future Recruit Academy (no date has been confirmed at this time).

Initial interviews for qualifying applicants will be video-based (online). Chiefs Panel interviews will take place throughout the recruitment process in an effort to maintain a constant list of candidates.

How to Prepare

1. Visit the National Testing Network (NTN) to register and complete the Firefighter Written Exam. On the NTN site, search for firefighter jobs in North Las Vegas, Nevada. The NTN Written Exam is valid for one year, but candidates may retake the exam, to improve scores in accordance with NTN guidelines.
2. Candidates who earn the required minimum score on the NTN Written Exam will be contacted for a video interview.
3. Candidates who earn the required minimum score on the video interview will be invited to a Chiefs Panel Interview. 
4. A valid CPAT must be obtained prior to a conditional job offer. The CPAT is valid for one year from the date of receipt. 

Minimum Requirements

• 18 years of age or older (at the time of application)
• High School Diploma or GED 
• Valid driver’s license
• Physically and mentally fit to perform vigorous basic skills
• Minimum of Emergency Medical Technician licensure (at the time of a conditional job offer)

Pre-Employment Requirements 

• Candidates must be in excellent physical condition.
• Employment is contingent on the results of a background investigation.
• Applicants are not eligible to apply if they have been convicted of a felony.
• Employment is contingent on the results of a physical examination that includes a pulmonary test and a psychological evaluation performed by a physician.
• Employment is contingent on the results of a pre-employment drug test.

• All Firefighter/EMTs begin at Step 1 with an annual starting salary of $56,978.50 (as of July 1, 2024) following successful completion of the Fire Academy.
• All Firefighter/Advanced EMTs begin at Step 1 with an annual starting salary of $62,984.01 (as of July 1, 2024) following successful completion of the Fire Academy. 
• All Firefighter/Paramedics begin at Step 1 with an annual starting salary of $72,780.00 (as of July 1, 2024) following successful completion of the Fire Academy.
