Home MenuHazard Mitigation Plan
Hazard mitigation planning reduces loss of life and property by minimizing the impact of disasters. It begins with state, tribal and local governments identifying natural disaster risks and vulnerabilities that are common in their area. After identifying these risks, they develop long-term strategies for protecting people and property from similar events. Mitigation plans are key to breaking the cycle of disaster damage and reconstruction.
In response to hazard risks, North Las Vegas and its regional partners have made a long‐term commitment to work together to prepare for and respond to emergencies. North Las Vegas and its regional partners continue to coordinate at the regional level to mitigate, prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and emergencies. The 2023 update of the North Las Vegas Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP) represents a cooperative effort by the regional partners to identify hazards and take action to reduce hazard risks over the long‐term. We would like to thank all our regional partners and community members who participated in the plan development workshops and public engagement process. Your input is a vital part of the planning process and ensures that the Regional HMP incorporates the concerns and priorities of our community. We encourage all interested community members to read the Regional HMP to learn more about hazard risks in our region and strategies proposed to reduce risks in their communities.
