When emergencies strike, keep yourself informed about the latest updates and where to seek safety if need be. Communicating with family members is essential to make sure everyone is okay. Have a simple plan that accounts for limited cell phone service, texting, or e-mails. There are many emergency mass notification communication tools available to residents and businesses in the City of North Las Vegas. A few examples of these tools include the following:

Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA)

WEA messages go directly to your cellphone, and can be used to send out urgent alerts targeting certain geographic areas. WEAs look like text messages but are designed to get your attention with a unique sound and vibration repeated twice. To be sure that your phone is able to receive a WEA if an event requires it, verify that the appropriate settings are enabled on your phone (default setting is typically enabled, but specific considerations vary by device).

Emergency Alert System (EAS)

The EAS broadcasts emergency information directly to radio and television carriers for widespread emergency events. You may have already seen these messages, which are voice messages with text scrolling on the television screen.

Local Mass Notification Systems

The City of North Las Vegas utilizes the CodeRED Emergency Alert program. Registration is required and you can register online using the link provided (insert link). CodeRED uses landline calls, emails, or texts for emergencies impacting your home address. CodeRED also has a convenient app that sends push notifications to your smartphone for emergencies within 25 miles of your current location. See the links provided below for more information about CodeRED.
