Responsive Education Events and Programs
North Las Vegas (NLV) students, teachers and schools are a top priority for Mayor Goynes- Brown and the City Council Members. Throughout each ward in the City, schools are actively visited and programs supported. In 2022, the City Council engaged with NLV Principals to discuss and discover what was impacting their campus most. Common themes included: Student achievement, chronic absenteeism, family engagement, teacher retention, and challenges resulting from the pandemic. With this information top of mind, the City has worked to make sure that all education events and initiatives are in response to these critical areas of need.
City of North Las Vegas Annual Events
School Mariachi Competition
The vibrant melodies of Mariachi music filled the air at the Craig Ranch Amphitheater on Saturday, May 18, 2024, as the second CNLV School Mariachi Competition unfolded. This annual extravaganza, now firmly entrenched as a cornerstone event in Southern Nevada's cultural calendar, brought together over 24 Mariachi teams from across the Las Vegas valley for a day of musical celebration and friendly competition. From the soul-stirring strains of traditional melodies to the infectious rhythms that had toes tapping, the performances showcased the rich tapestry of Mariachi music. The event not only highlighted the musical talents of the participating students but also served as a testament to the cultural diversity and vibrancy of the City. By providing a platform for students to showcase their skills and creativity, the CNLV School Mariachi Competition contributes to enhancing school attendance, academic achievement, and family engagement. The competition was fierce as five esteemed judges from across the country presided over the performances, ultimately awarding prize money, custom trophies, and, of course, the coveted bragging rights to the Overall Grand Prize winning teams in the Middle School and High School categories. It was a joyous occasion where families, friends, and music enthusiasts came together to support and cheer on many of Nevada’s most talented student performers.
